3 STARS

One of the best acne treatments on the market today is ProActiv. It is a system that includes a renewing cleanser, revitalizing toner, and repairing lotion. Prescription grade benzoyl peroxide is the active ingredient in ProActiv. It does not require a prescription. In order to find the best acne treatment for you, start with essential oils. If that doesn’t work, go to the next step by trying ProActive. If ProActive doesn’t work, then try a prescription alternative. Proactiv Solution Acne System is proudly made by Guthy Renker.

The first and foremost benefit using Proactiv is the guarantee that your acne infection will be cured. The very main reason why the product is notably popular is because of its effective and unique form of healing. Another benefit of the Proactiv is the convenience of its application. The entire healing process consists mainly of three steps: Renewing Cleaner, Revitalizing Toner, and Repairing Lotion. Before trying to treat acne with proactive you should know all the ingredients of proactive to prevent potential negative side-effects.

Proactiv is for people without sensitive skin. It dries out skin, turns it red, and makes rashes appear all over my face, burns. Have to use it twice a day, if skipped even once you would see breakouts. The cleanser has micro-beads in it that literally rip your face apart and the directions state to actually rub them into your skin for up to 2 minutes which is suicide. The benzoyl peroxide is too thin to really glob on like you need to for it to be really effective. Plus, it is too much like a lotion. It needs to dry really nicely after you put it on before the moisturizer.

Hence it is always good to use natural skin care treatments rather that going for products that are available in the market.

Effective Acne Skin Care Treatments

February 16th, 2010

Acne is ubiquitous, especially in teenagers. Acne skin problems occur due to the uneven flow of sebum oil, which leads to bacterial accumulation and finally pimples. Acne problems are found in most parts of the body, face, back and arms. If the acne is not treated properly, it may lead to severe conditions.

Most people try to treat acne problems on their own, but any doctor would tell you that this should not be encouraged. Acne treatment must be done with full care, because missteps could lead to permanent scarring. Treating acne requires a certain level of regimentation and tenacity. If you are not vigilant, it could further become a hard-hitting skin problem with irreversible acne scarring- causing psychological and emotional trauma. Hence you should maintain you skin to avoid acne and pimples.

Do you know how acne skin problems occur? Everyone has different skin types: maybe normal, dry, oily, or a combination. Out of all these, acne is most prevalent in oily skin since oily skin attracts more dirt and pollution to its surface- leading to the occurrence of pimples. The pilosebaceous unit in your epidermis consists of the hair shaft, the hair follicle, and the sebaceous gland which makes sebum. When you break out it is because this oil gland produces too much oil which feeds surface bacteria. Unchecked, this becomes a vicious cycle. The aggravated situation of pimples could further lead to acne vulgaris, which needs to be treated in time by following a strict skin care schedule.

Researchers have found that Curcumin, a compound from Turmeric, has the ability to cure acne skin problems. Curcumin is an anti-inflammatory agent and one of the strongest antiseptics known to man. It acts to reduce inflammatory skin, and reduces pimples as well. Curcumin fights bacteria on the surface of skin while deeply exfoliating pores; so existing blemishes heal more quickly and emerging breakouts are brought to the surface and flushed out.

Primary consideration in treating acne are minimizing oil and treating bacteria, restoring a homeostatic balance to the skin. Hence Curcumin acts as the best agent in treating acne problems naturally. Curcumin products deeply penetrate pores to normalize skin by safeguarding existing blemishes while also helping to prevent future acne.

The Power of Natural Acne Treatment

February 16th, 2010

Most people try to cure acne on their own by using products with harsh chemicals. Consumers are often drawn by the lure of a quick fix. But the fact is that, harsh chemicals can lead to skin damage and side effects to your skin.

Harsh chemicals such as salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, etc, are common active ingredients in chemically based OTC acne products (proactiv, exposed, zenmed, acnezine, clearpores, oxy pads, murad).

First of all, these products almost always never work effectively for moderate to severe acne. Take some time, browse the internet, and you will easily find thousands of bad reviews for these products.

Secondly, though these acne products can effective at clearing mild breakouts, they rob the skin of natural oils- leaving skin dry, red and irritated. Remember, just because a product is OTC doesn’t mean it is safe or effective.

Almost all people get acne skin problems at certain point of time in their life. Normally acne problems start with pimples, but if it is not cured properly,

The use of harsh chemicals can lead to following side effects:

  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Skin becomes photo sensitive (beware of direct sunlight!)
  • Severe acne breakout
  • Results do not last
  • Blackheads

Moreover, if harsh chemical products such as salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide are used, they have to be used continuously; or else you could breakout even worse than before. This is because harsh chemicals do nothing to restore balance to your oil or bacteria production. Your skin needs a certain amount of natural oil to be healthy. Most OTC products create a dependency, forcing you to keep buying the product as it dries your skin out further.

Benzoyl peroxide has been known to bleach hair and skin, and it is advisable to avoid using such harsh chemicals for acne skin problems. Human facial skin is soft and delicate and can’t be treated with harsh chemicals. It’s always better to use natural acne products.

Natural and Ayurvedic acne products are suited for people with any level acne. Humans form natural symbiosis with plants. The advantage that herbs have over man-made chemicals is that nature sensibly packages her own chemicals in well-balanced and minute proportions so that their safe assimilation is assured. By reaching right down to the cause, not just alleviating the symptoms, they ensure a gradual and realistic return to health and skin homeostasis.

Acne treatment will always vary with person, as each individual’s skin reacts to treatment in different ways. But natural treatments are never harmful. Moreover, Ayurvedic treatments like turmeric have been extremely effective for thousands of years for all types of acne. Avoiding harsh chemicals and using natural blend acne products always gives effective results on a long term basis.

Curcumin- The Wonder Drug Acne Skin Care

February 8th, 2010

acne skin treatments

Almost all people get acne skin problems at certain point of time in their life. Normally acne problems start with pimples, but if it is not cured properly,

it can lead to severe and painful conditions. Because acne occurs during formative years, the psychosocial and economic impact is undeniable. Acne can cause social isolation which may lead to depression: thus acne problems have to be treated with full care. Aging of skin at early stages of life is another type of problem people suffer with. In the epidermis, collagen production slows, and elastin, the substance that allows skin to snap, becomes less effective. Dead skin cells don’t shed as fast either. Aging can also be due to smoking, excessive UV exposure, and free radicals. Skin cells end up becoming inflamed. There are various anti-inflammatory agents available naturally and artificially in the world which treats aging: and Curcumin is one among them. Curcumin reduces fats and aids blood circulation; it is a powerful anti-bacterial, antiseptic and astringent that naturally exfoliates skin. Curcumin is a free radical scavenger and antioxidant, inhibiting lipid peroxidation and oxidative DNA damage: thereby reducing the appearance of fine lines. If enhanced with tartaric acid (alpha-hydroxy acid from grapes), or pomegranate or green tea extract, it is a powerful anti-oxidant that prevents premature aging of the skin. If combined with citric acid (grape fruit and mandarin orange) and willow back, it keeps skin healthy by preventing the inflammation and accumulation of dead skin cells.

Curcumin has the ability to deeply penetrate into pores of the skin and blemishes- and it can help prevent future acne. Researchers have conducted various studies on Curcumin and found that it has the ability to cure medical conditions such as inflammations, lowering cholesterol, reducing blood clotting and even acting as an anti-cancer agent.

Curcumin is known in the scientific world as diferuloylmethane. It can be extracted from the rhizome of the Turmeric plant. It has been scientifically proven to suppress cellular transformation, proliferation, invasion, angiogenesis, and metastasis through a mechanism not fully understood. Extensive research over the past 50 years shows that this tautomeric polyphenol can both prevent and treat cancer. Curcumin’s ability to suppress tumor initiation, promotion, and metastasis has been clearly demonstrated in countless studies.

Acne is a type of skin problem found in most teenagers. Researchers found that if a turmeric mask is applied regularly on the face overnight, it reduces acne skin problems. For years, it was not known how turmeric has this ability. Recently it was found that Curcumin is responsible for reducing the size of inflamed acne and acne scars. It also helps acne damaged tissues to heal faster- making acne scars noticeably lighter.

Turmeric: The Ancient Secret for Acne Skin Care

Best acne treatment

Ayurvedic Organix-Best Acne Product

Turmeric is one of the greatest natural remedies for acne. In fact, it is clinically proven to clear acne in short periods- naturally.  That is why Dr. Rama chose it as the key ingredient in Ayurvedic Organix . Since turmeric has various medicinal qualities it acts also as a good antioxidant. It does not have any adverse reactions or toxic contents.

The history of turmeric has always emphasized and accredited it as a 5000 year old herb that is used for various ailments, but mainly for skin disorders. It has been used for centuries, for millennia! Used particularly by the people of India. Southeast Asian people, especially Indians use turmeric in their cookery and they consider it as symbol of prosperity, fertility and purity.  The same principles stressed to mankind by Ayurveda were stressed by Hippocrates also: “Let your food be your medicine”.

Research states that after 2 to 3 days you can visualize the power of turmeric in the treatment of acne. It is one of the strongest antiseptics known to man.  The blemishes on the skin surface slowly vanish and turmeric. Turmeric also prevents the skin from becoming flaky.

Turmeric has its own traditional story which has added a milestone in Ayurveda and Siddha medicine. It is considered a Herculean purifier by Ayurvedic therapists. Though Ayurveda is considered as alternative medicine in western countries, it is the traditional one in India. It is a holistic approach to health that is designed to help people to attain longevity.

The significance of Ayurveda and Siddha medicine is the use of natural herbs such as turmeric, neem, etc.. It is promising that Ayurveda has gained momentum recently on an International level. Even western people have started using turmeric in the form of creamy paste, powder and also in their cookery.  Most US medical schools are now incorporating classes in this integrative medicine (no longer just an alternative).

Aside from curing acne, turmeric is also used in the treatment of diabetes, colds, liver and heart disease. A mixture of turmeric with warm milk soothes respiratory ailments such as cough and asthma. In addition to this, it increases quality and count of semen.  The University of Mississippi Medical Center actually tried to get a worldwide patent in 1995 for the medical use of turmeric (the patent was challenged and overturned by India citing 2000 years of medicinal turmeric use). Turmeric protects the body’s immune system and can be used as a healer. One more interesting fact is, during the World War II, the British soldiers used turmeric in the treatment of gunshot wounds.

Why Proactiv Won’t Help

January 31st, 2010

The bottom line: there are countless stories of patients who walk into dermatology offices frustrated after months of taking expensive “cosmetic products”.  But mainly they complain about Proactiv.

Is the marketing compelling?  Yes.  Is it the most effective treatment for acne?  Not by a loooong shot.  Ultimately, you should always see a doctor instead of experimenting with over-hyped marketing campaigns sprinkled paid celebutantes.  Do you really think P Diddy knows anything about skin care?  Would you go visit Jessica Simpson if you had colon cancer?  Come on…it’s your face! Go see a doctor.

There is absolutely nothing that benzoyl peroxide can do if you have moderate to severe cystic acne.  And that’s what a lot of teenagers have.  The ingredients in Proactiv do not address the main concern for persistent and severe acne- hormones.  Yes, Proactiv is the one of the most well known acne treatments in the US. If you are having acne skin problems, and have decided to use Proactiv, you may want to look into pros and cons of using Proactiv.

Proactiv can be effective for mild acne. Proactiv attacks the blocked pores and buildup of bacteria, which are the two main things that lead to acne skin problem. It uses exfoliants to unclog pores and benzoyl peroxide to kill bacteria which are responsible for acne skin problems. It has to be used regularly though whether you have acne problems or not. It could help avoid new acne from occurring.  There are also a lot of products and steps- which can get confusing.

Every product in this world has both pros and cons. Proactiv can cause redness, peeling and stinging because of the harsh chemicals. People who cannot tolerate the active ingredients in Proactiv have to limit their use to once a day or less. Also, the results generally take a long time (maybe 8 weeks) to get an end result. The benzoyl peroxide in Proactiv can bleach clothes, towels, pillow cases, and even hair. If you are not a fan of harsh chemicals, you may want to try Ayurvedic and organic remedies. To no one’s surprise, a lot of these methods are more effective than most chemicals on the OTC market.

Proactiv does not cure acne, and its affect varies with skin types. If you have moderate to severe acne, painful acne cysts, or scarring from acne, then Proactiv would not be the appropriate option to treat you.
